School Excursions

Hunter Warbirds provides a great opportunity for Kindergarten to Year 12 students to learn about the history of aviation and pilot training that has played out in fields and communities of the Hunter region for over 100 years.

Organise your school excursion to Hunter Warbirds by emailing us.  Download our Teachers Guide to prepare for your visit.  Our Teachers Guide includes curriculum links, online resources and activities to bring the incredible stories of the Hunter Warbirds collection into your classroom.

Students will have opportunity to:

  • step into the shoes of local aviation pioneers

  • experience the thrill of early flight in wood and fabric biplanes

  • engage with authentic artefacts, primary texts and imagery from a wide range of eras including WWI & WWII

  • connect with key moments in Australian history through large-scale imagery and original film footage

  • see large-scale artefacts, aircraft, engines and propellers and learn first-hand about these technologies

  • go behind the scenes at the restoration workshop and see the skill and technology required to rebuild aircraft.
