Volunteer

Do you have a background in aviation? Or a particular interest in the warbirds that played a massive role throughout our history? Or a desire to be a valuable part of something special?

Volunteer Opportunities

The Upper Hunter region is famed for the voluntary support it provided to Australia’s war engagements last century. A core aspect of the insightful information found at Hunter Warbirds relates to this.

Hunter Warbirds offers you the opportunity to become involved in respecting the region’s involvement and efforts. Play your part by helping our patrons get the most out of their visits and being a part of the growth and evolution of the Hunter Warbirds journey.

There are roles available to suit a wide variety of interests. You can provide information and guidance to individual guests or adult and educational groups, assist in our gift shop or cafe, work in the grounds or on the hangar, assist at special events and flying days or carry out more specialised work with the Warbird restoration volunteers. We will truly value your contribution.

We will provide entry level training, followed by ongoing educational information on the many warbirds and exhibits we have on display, and a friendly welcoming environment. For those who complete the application process, we will provide a comprehensive induction. We would appreciate a minimum commitment of 8 hours per month.

Be part of the Hunter Warbirds Community

Skills and Passion

Our volunteers are from a cross section - some have spent years in aviation, some have no idea about warbirds but are interested in finding a rewarding opportunity to support the community.

The minimum age for volunteer applications is 18. There is no upper age requirement!

Commitment

Many volunteers start out as Tour Guides in our museum, then move into an area that interests them. We ask for a minimum commitment of 8 hours per month, but most people do much more.

Training and Mentorship

Volunteers are provided training and mentorship and in some positions are required to serve a probationary month.

Once you are accepted as a volunteer, you can manage your volunteer activity via your own web page.

Volunteer with us

We operate with the minimum of paid staff and our community of volunteers are responsible for most of the major activities in the exhibition, from maintaining and flying aircraft, to educating and guiding our visitors or working with our Event Manager when organising our social and special events. We are always looking for good people to join the Hunter Warbirds family.
